Ahead of the Curve – Rounded Furniture is the Big Hug We All Need Right Now

Truth be told, we’re all feeling a little fragile these days. And that seems to have filtered into our furniture.

Soft, curved corners are showing up on couches, chairs, even desks and consoles. What is particularly nice about this structural furniture trend is that it’s not beholden to any specific style. Modern, biophilia, cottagecore…there are plenty of curved options to choose from, making this a trend we can all snuggle up to.

Thinking of refreshing your spaces with this rounded aesthetic? Our editors show off their favorite pieces that can add a little curve into your home.

Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams, Giselle Sofa $5,460

Minimal modern tends to get a bit of a reputation for being cold and angular. This gorgeously sleek sofa is anything but that, and could easily add a much-needed softening element to all that metal and glass. We should also mention it comes in over 15 color options and three fabric styles, making this the bespoke soft-rounded sofa you’ve been dreaming of.

Jonathan Alder, Leather Moroccan Pouf $395

Wanderlust is hitting us hard – but no one really had to tell us that. Nomadic inspired items have already infiltrated their way into our homes in all sorts of flavors from Global to Urban Boho. Designers have responded with adventurous colors and eclectic patterns. This ottoman sized pouf from Jonathan Alder’s new collection hits all the right notes, with bright pink color, soft leather texture and Moroccan artist handsewn designs.

Kutarq Studio, Ringo Dining Chair $135 (each)

These rounded dining chairs don’t just look good, they’re ergonomic and are super comfy to sit in. Made of a molded wood fiber composite and solid metal framing they’ll stand up to years of meals to come.

Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams, Petra Coffee Table $3,730

Given all our time indoors, it’s no surprise that so many of us have begun decorating our homes with nature-inspired furnishings and décor. Crafted from onyx, a semiprecious stone with banded layers of color, this coffee table is stunning. Its rounded edges will fit right in if you too are craving to “bring a little outside in”. What’s more, being a natural stone, each table is completely unique. What could be more natural than that?

Greer, Accent Chair in Velvet $718.99

With all due respect to neutrals, many of us are embracing the joyful return of bright and bold colors. Case in point, this velvety, sculptural chair from Greer with its burst of mellow sunshine and smooth sculptural outline could easily be a focal point on its own, or part of a merry band of maximalistic furnishings. Either way, it’s a full on happy vibe.

Monarch, Twin Platform Linen Bed $395

Add this linen bed frame and diamond tufted headboard into your guest room and your visitors may never want to leave. The low profile makes it easy to get in and out (ideal for your older guests or those with mobility issues) and the soft rounded edges will have them sleeping in soundly.

Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams, Holloway Storage Chest $3,194

There’s always been something sensuous about tactile textures and textiles, but 2022 has really moved these to front of mind, especially in our interiors. Organic macramé, thick jute, heavy linens and all level of three-dimensional pattern play are (happily) filling our rooms. This mid-century inspired piece with its geometric front design would be a perfect edition to that world of woven wonders. And we truly love how the soft light oak finish brings a fresh take on the classic MC silhouette.

Lem, Piston Leather Bar Stool $597

Like a sleek, Italian race car, this barstool is one hot number. There are three other color options (including black, white and brown) but seriously, how could you possibly resist this lipstick red?

Safavieh, Blooming Tree Stool/Table $119.99

Rounded features with a little cottagecore? Yes please. This ceramic table can double as a stool and will fit right in if your décor leans towards romantic rural. The pastel tones and delicate flowers make it perfectly pastoral.

Tom Dixon, Silver Hydro Edition Chair $2,475

Lastly, let’s not forget the great outdoors. This blow-formed chair from Tom Dixon is made from 100% recycled aluminum and would be a welcome addition to any back patio large or small. Such a dramatic talking piece, you may want to use it inside and out. Your home, your rules!
