Hot Trend – For the Love of Laguiole

If you’ve never heard of Laguiole, a brief history lesson. Sometimes misconstrued as just a ‘brand’ it’s origins date all the way back to the 1820s in the town of (you guessed it) Laguiole, France. It was here that the knife makers of the town began getting quite the reputation for their exquisite workmanship. In the span of a few decades, these knives were world famous and had achieved a treasure trove of medals in recognition for their quality, strength and of course, the now equally famous ability to fold into its handle.

The art of creating these spectacular blades and cutlery was almost lost post-WWII, but was saved in 1985 by a resurgence of enthusiasts who brought production of the craft back to Laguiole.

With such a pedigree as that, it’s no wonder the style has endured.

Fast forward to today, with 2020 decor trends leaning towards eclectic silhouettes, traditional-meets-modern mix & matching and playful color popping, this style is having a serious moment.
