Great Thanksgiving Décor Ideas

This holiday season is seeing a welcome return of families gathering in person (with careful planning) once more. Are you hosting this season? Congrats!

Holiday décor is a great way to make your guests feel welcome. It sets the mood and lets your weary travelers know that you care enough about them to create an atmosphere of delight and love. Of course, when it comes to holiday décor, there are a lot of options out there. Sometimes we buy something because it “fits the festive”, but later regret it as it just doesn’t look quite right with our home aesthetic.

We have some great combinations to help you pull together your holiday look, while keeping your favorite interior style. Whether it be Contemporary Modern, Boldly Maximalistic, Cottagecore, Traditional or Bohemian Global. Sound exciting? Let’s get started!

CONTEMPORARY MODERN

With a usually “less is more” approach to your interior tastes, it can be a challenge to find holiday-inspired décor that fits your contemporary modern home. Look for items that are focused, with sculptural organic forms and/or items that are neutral, but not cold.

Here are some items that strike just the right note of holiday while keeping the clean, modern aesthetic. A simple, Happy Holidays door mat to welcome visitors. Inside, swap the traditional evergreen garland with something equally green but unexpected…in this case, some faux eucalyptus does the trick. Throughout the house you can continue to play with silhouettes – a throw pillow sporting a metallic interpretation of a poinsettia branch, a feather-like metallic wreath, milk glass pumpkins on the table juxtapose nicely with a pair of sleek copper candlesticks. And instead of the customary framed family pictures on the wall? Go with a gorgeous threesome of edgeless glass photos, courtesy of Fracture (set up an account, upload your photos, choose your sizes and you are good to go!).

All that’s left is to serve your guests some much needed holiday cheer in these contemporary glasses by Zwiesel Glas. Salud!

BOLDLY MAXIMALISTIC

On the whole other side of the décor spectrum…we have the hugely popular interior trend known as Maximalism. As the name implies, your look is all about bold colors, mix-and-matching print patterns and lots of small-scale items layered to create an overall eclectic effect.

For you, finding the right décor to complement, not clash, with your strong look is the real challenge.  You want to focus on pieces that follow the Bloomsbury style manifesto – namely transformed, multi-colored objects that give a nod to a handmade look.

Need some inspo on that? Outside we start with a festive burlap leaf and pine cone wreath on the door and an equally festive holiday door mat to welcome your guests. Inside, feel free to scatter about these gorgeous velvet pumpkins of various sizes and colors (there’s 10 to a pack, which is a serious find!). On the table we put MacKenzie-Childs’s hand-painted, ceramic branch, complete with gold leaves and checkered acorns, while three Spruzzo chargers are set with all sorts of delectable food items.  Let your guests toast to your amazing taste with some colorful hand-painted wine goblets. Cheers!

From Left to Right:

TRADITIONAL

It’s called traditional for a reason, after all. Classic pieces that stand the test of time are the mainstays for this interior style, along with a color palette of reds, browns, greens and darker woods. Consistency and harmony are key and reflected in the architectural elements of a traditional interior, including things like molding, columns and paneling.

If this is your style then you know, most holiday décor is pretty much made for you. So finding items you enjoy may not be as much of a challenge as your fellow decorators. That said, there are still ground rules to be mindful of when it comes to pulling off the holidays right.

Focus on keeping your color palette classic, such as oranges, browns and golds. Archetypal items such as winter squash, fall leaves, winter berries and of course, pumpkins and turkeys are always a great bet. Our traditional inspiration items are perfect examples. A gorgeous, autumnal wreath from Nearly Natural will become your new perennial favorite. And instead of some, random impersonal Happy Thanksgiving wall art, wow your guests by taking your favorite online family photo, adding a holiday greeting, and letting the folks over at Fracture turn it into an extra large masterpiece. Hang it in your dining area so loved ones can enjoy as dinner is served. Additional touches such as sturdy gold candlesticks, a delightful embroidered throw pillow, a beautifully beaded table runner and some festive bows placed over the mantle (or anywhere else you fancy) will all enhance your already lovely traditional home.

From Left to Right:

COTTAGECORE

Some call it Farmcore or Countrycore, but this interior style is most commonly known collectively as Cottagecore. Inspired by an idealized concept of rural life, this style has been going strong since 2010 and is still growing in popularity.

IYKTYK with this style, your focus is on artisanal-inspired items, pastoral patterns, and the concept of coziness. We start by welcoming guests with a fresh chili herb wreath from Harry & David, and a hand woven, coconut-husk door mat. Inside, add some cozy candlelight with 3R Studio’s 8-piece collection of mercury glass votive candle holders in various colors from plum to pink. A dreamy little seafoam green pumpkin accent piece will look adorable on a coffee table. And for the main event? Autumn Fest’s plaid cloth tablecloth serves as the perfect base layer for your Thanksgiving table, while Sur la Table’s gorgeous ceramic turkey centerpiece steals the show. Last but definitely not least, we found these velvety soft, ballet-slipper pink napkin rings to bring that little touch of sweetness to your table.

From Left to Right:

BOHEMIAN GLOBAL

Free-spirited, artistic, welcoming and playfully tongue-in-cheek. That is truly the heart of the Bohemian Global style. Even the name implies, this interior trend is all about taking the dark romantic touches of Boho and pairing it with global cultural touches.

If this is your style, then you know that every piece in your home has a story, or at the very least, a talking point. Finding holiday pieces that will marry well with your whimsical and eclectic tastes can be a real challenge.

Well, challenge accepted. Here is a fantastic mix of holiday items that are equally chic and unexpected. We start with a piece from the king of the eclectic, Jonathan Adler. This gold version of his extremely popular Muse ceramic series hits the right note, and scent (sage balsam) for your coffee table or mantle. Speaking of mantles, yours will love this sparkly, champagne-colored ice garland from Z Gallerie. Pop an artistic piece on your sofa, courtesy of Rosemary’s Art UK. This puffy pillow is a screen print from their playful “Autumn” series. For the table, we embrace with the organic, starting with Opalhouse’s macramé table runner, add MacKenzie-Child’s handblown glass chevron pumpkin centerpiece and some rough-hewn acorn napkin ring holders.
