22 Amazing Updates for Your Bedroom for 2022

What’s new in bedroom colors, styles and trends? We’re so glad you asked, as we have 22 amazing items to update your space!

GORGEOUS GREENS

If there is one color that has surpassed everything else in 2022, it would be green. From subtle sages to moody emerald, this area of the color wheel is anything but secondary. So if you’re looking to add a dash of trend to your bedroom, here are some luxurious options…

Starting with this misty sage sheet set from SHEEX made from silky soft performance fabric you can’t wait to sink into. Why’s that? Because it breathes 10x better than traditional cotton sheets (so buh-bye sweaty sleep) and it’s low friction is gentle on hair, cutting down on breakage and frizz (and buh-bye beadhead). Comes with sheet and two pillowcases (Twin/Twin XL include one pillowcase). Perfect as a neutral to pair with brighter colors, or as part of a soothing minimalistic ensemble.

All this, and did we mention we found it on sale for 25% off? We think we just did.

SHEEX, Original Performance Sheet Set in Sage Mist

$176.25 – $236.25 (prices from Twin to Split King)

Love the idea of trying out this season’s darker greens but afraid it might overwhelm your smaller space? This velvet, evergreen Wren bed features clean, minimalist lines and light wood that keeps the moody color in check. Hand upholstered with an elegant double-flange edge, it makes for a stunning focal point for you to update your entire room around.

Z Gallerie, Wren Bed in Evergreen Velvet $1,799

Finally, what could be more green than some biophilia? Monstera plants are showing up, and showing off their spectacular leaves in just about every décor magazine you can find this year. The downside? It takes around 3 years for this plant to hit full display. An elegant solution that’ll give you the instant gratification you’re craving is a high quality faux version. This one from Peyton Lane looks so real, you may be tempted to water it. Standing a full 28.5″ high, it will deliver the big boost of tranquility in your space that you’re looking for, without the wait or the green thumb required.

Peyton Lane, Artificial Monstera w/Pot $75.99

WARMING REDS

While you may not have considered red for your bedroom, this season’s earthy clays and terracotta-hues are the ideal counterpart to all those bright color pops that are uber-trending (we’ll get to those in a bit too). It also plays nice with your cottagecore florals and retro 70s-inspired mustards and avocado greens.

This subdued, earthy orange with its dusty pink undertone from Benjamin Moore, called “Golden Gate” works that delicate balance of tones to perfection. You can add it as an accent for a warm flourish, or go all in, wall to wall for a bold statement color that won’t keep you up at night.

Benjamin Moore, Premium Interior in Golden Gate (1 Gallon) $64.99

Bedrooms have always been our retreat, but the pandemic really extended that notion beyond getting our forty winks. Alternative seating areas where we could cozy up to a great book, or simply enjoy a warm cup to ourselves, worked their way into our hearts and our bedrooms. This round and tufted, caramel-colored creature from Chic Home is just waiting to fill that corner spot in your space and turn it into your personal nesting nook.

Chic Home, Giovanni Camel Leather Club Chair $729.99

For that finishing piece…something to add a little texture to your wall or nightstand, this unique frame from PictureFrames is a great choice. Handmade and crafted from reclaimed barnwood, you can choose just about any size from a modest 5″x5″ (pictured below) all the way up to a striking 42″x42″.

PictureFrames, Reclaimed Red Barnwood Frame

MID-TONAL BLUES

Classic blues came front and center in 2020, so much so that Pantone named it their color of that year. But just as we’ve moved forward from the events of that time, so too we’re branching out into more variety. In 2022, we’re playing with all ranges of mid-tonal blues, from Azure to Cerulean and Cadet to Sky.  No surprise then that these soothing tones are back in the bedroom (some would argue they really never left).

Ready to get a little bluesy? This denim-toned sheet set from SHEEX is an exemplar choice. Made from naturally hypoallergic fibers, this 100% Tencel sheet set comes with fitted and top sheet along with 2 pillowcases (Twin and Twin XL have one pillowcase). Big bonus – it’s also made with CoolX™ Technology, making it moisture wicking to keep you cool and dry on those warm summer nights.

SHEEX, Arctic Aire Max Sheet Set

$248.97 – $748.97

AMBIENT NEUTRALS

For the record, the white-on-white-on-white interior has run its course. That’s not to say that minimalism is also out as a trend. Far from it. This season though, we’re sliding into the neutral zone. Sandy taupe, bleached grays and all manner of creams and ivories, brought to life with organic textures and materials. Everything from wabi-sabi inspired potteries to hygge style furnishings are finding a rebirth to give our bedrooms that fresh, spa-like feel.

This marvelously textured piece is just waiting to be the cornerstone of your minimalist room. The soft, creamy tones of this six drawer cabinet give major visual interest with its faux shagreen texture made to resemble the pebbled leather of stingray skins. Plenty of storage for all your folded clothing and the vintage brushed brass accents give off delicious old Hollywood vibes.

Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams, 6 Drawer Dresser $4,260

Great things come in pairs, and that is very much the case with our next choice. Starting with the SHEEX original all season comforter (10x more breathable than the average comforter and wicks moisture away from your skin 2x-3x better than cotton), we combined it with their hypoallergenic Arctic Aire Max duvet cover in silver. This whispery colored gray sets the perfect neutral tone for your room…though with comfort like this, you may have a tough time getting out of your cozy bed to see it!

SHEEX, Original Performance All Season Comforter $309 and Arctic Aire Max Duvet Cover in Silver $199 – $259 (Twin to King)

Lastly for our neutrals – this unique and intricate wall hanging is handmade in the Netherlands by textile artist Nom. Nom uses a single weaving technique to create interesting patterns and textures that brings neutral, earth-toned dimension to his pieces and will add both great visual interest as well as texture to your space.

Studio Nom, Lwazi Wall Hanging $178

LOVELY LILAC

Most of us love our pastels, but sometimes they can come across in interiors as a bit too sweet (ie – that would be a great color…for your kids room). Lilac brings a maturity to it, which allows us to indulge in our pastel cake and eat it too.

Not surprisingly, there is quite a range in lilac shades when it comes to paint. This one from Magnolia Home called “In Bloom” has a nice, muted undertone to it that makes it very flexible for a variety of rooms, especially the bedroom. Lilac plays so very well with yellows and faded orange tones (also very popular right now) and it can easily match against all those organic rattan and woven wicker pieces currently dominating décor.

Magnolia Home by Joanna Gaines, In Bloom Interior $54.99 (1 Gallon)

A small bench at the end of your bed is a great opportunity to introduce a new color into your room. This lovely lilac beauty from the Nicole Miller home collection not only adds color but texture as well. As we’ve mentioned, woven items are a favorite in décor this season, so this upholstered piece is a real win-win.

Nicole Miller, Griffin Velvet Bench $349.99

Looking to start introducing this color a bit more conservatively in your space? This medium sized vase from Jonathan Adler’s ‘Versailles’ collection is a great way to do so, while also giving a little zing to your shelf or nightstand.

Jonathan Adler, Versailles Hex Vase $325

NATURAL BROWNS

Walking hand in hand with this season’s trends of natural elements, earthy brown tones are having their day in the sun. Whether your current bedroom look is retro, biophilic or minimal Zen, brown shades provide a splendid grounding element…

Starting with a great neutral brown in your space will really help ease you into layering up all those earthy shades. And of course, it certainly doesn’t hurt when you’re talking about something that will also ensure a restful and restorative night’s sleep. This sheet set from SHEEX is made of TENCEL™ Lyocell fibers that contain submicroscopic channels which helps regulate absorption and releasing of moisture (keeping you cool under the covers). It also naturally reduces the growth of bacteria without any chemical additives…that’s something we can definitely sink into!

SHEEX, Arctic Aire Max Sheet Set $190 – $250

(Prices range from Twin to Cal King)

Truth be told, we love a good throw pillow for the bedroom. It’s a wonderful way to change things up and try out a new color option with very little commitment. Here we’ve found ourselves a treasure trove of three from MGBW that not only showcase those warm and cozy brown colors, they each have a ton of texture too.

Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams, Waterfall Jacquard Pillow $194, Hair on Hide Square Accent Pillow $327, and Leather Lumbar Pillow $394

While brown tones can pretty much go with any room style, if you are very much into Mid-century modern, then you are definitely into browns. This pair of nightstand lamps from John Timberland are a little MCM, a little farmhouse rustic and a whole lot of gorgeous. Plus they come with built-in USB ports.

John Timberland, Mitchell Tapering Column Lamps $149.99

STATEMENT COLOR POP

Whether you love your Maximalism, Global Bohemian, or Cluttercore – you are in excellent company these days. Bold is big these days, including in bedroom décor. Having said that, remember that your bedroom is where you go to relax and recharge. So we offer our advice on this matter and say get your bright and bold on for sure, just try to temper it into pops.

Want to make a big splash with some boho vibes? How about trying some wallpaper? This peel and stick version from Roommates will completely transform your room. Easy to apply, it would look amazing as an accent wall behind your bed, or cleverly added to an open shelving unit to really bring things to life. The best part is, if you find yourself having second thoughts? It’s super easy to remove as well.

Roommates, Bohemian Peel & Stick Wallpaper $33.99 (1 roll = 28.18 sq ft)

Maybe you prefer your room to be something from that 70s show? Ground your room in one of the biggest color comebacks this year – burnt orange. This 8′ x 10′ from Jonathan Adler will play perfectly with all those lemon-y yellows and earthy greens. Handmade by artisans in Peru, it really is the ‘wow’ moment your room has been looking for.

Jonathan Adler, Lorenzo Peruvian Flat Weave Rug $3,200

Finally…for all those marvelous maximalistas out there, here’s your color punch. No one does it better than Marimekko. And to really take things up a notch, pair this flower-power comforter set with Betsey Johnson’s black and white striped sheet set (as pictured below).

Marimekko, Cotton Percale Comforter Set $220 – $289.99 (price range from Twin to King) and

Betsey Johnson, Wonderland Striped B&W Sheet Set $21.99 – $34.99 (price from Twin to King)
